Confession:
Six months ago, I had never even heard the term “electrosmog.” And yet, it was all around me—literally. This invisible pollution, made up of electromagnetic radiation from our tech, is silently buzzing through our homes, bedrooms, and even our bodies.
As someone on a health journey with electromagnetic sensitivity, learning about electrosmog felt like finding a missing puzzle piece. No, it doesn’t knock on your door or come with a warning label—but that doesn’t mean it’s harmless.
In this post, I’ll break down what electrosmog is, how it might be affecting your well-being, and what simple steps you can take to protect yourself without going full off-grid.
What Is Electrosmog?
Electrosmog, or electromagnetic pollution, refers to the invisible radiation emitted by modern electronic devices and wireless technologies. This includes Wi-Fi routers, cell phones, power lines, smart meters, Bluetooth devices, and other electronics. While these technologies have transformed daily life, their cumulative radiation—ranging from low-frequency fields to high-frequency microwaves—has raised health concerns. Electrosmog is often described as a “hidden danger” because it’s undetectable to our senses but may have significant effects on human health, animals, and even plant life.
The term “smog” alone hints at the negativity associated with it. Smog conjures images of polluted air—an invisible but harmful presence that affects our health. Electrosmog carries a similar vibe: intangible yet pervasive, lurking silently in our environment. It evokes a sense of unease, reminding us that we’re surrounded by something potentially dangerous.
My Personal Experience
For me, avoiding EMFs wasn’t optional—it was essential. I’ve always had a highly sensitive nervous system, which goes into overdrive with prolonged exposure to electromagnetic fields. On top of that, I’ve battled the Epstein-Barr virus for 15 years. My body couldn’t fully fight the virus because it was constantly overwhelmed by EMFs. Eventually, I had no choice but to protect myself. (Read more about the protections I’ve implemented here.)
Though my symptoms are clear due to my electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS), this issue doesn’t only affect those who are sensitive. It concerns everyone. People with EHS are like the canaries in the coal mine, showing how EMFs could impact the broader population in the coming years. The truth is, our bodies are not designed to handle these ever-increasing electromagnetic fields.
Simple Steps to Reduce EMF Exposure
- Reconsider Where You Keep Your Mobile Devices:
- Avoid wearing your phone close to your body. Research has linked breast and testicular cancers to EMFs from mobile devices.
- At night, keep your phone far from your head—definitely not on your nightstand or charging beside you, as charging amplifies radiation.
- Do you sleep with your smart tracker on? Keep in mind that it emits a constant source of radiation.
Extra tip: At home, use flight mode and enable Wi-Fi calling to reduce radiation.
2. Evaluate Your Sleeping Environment:
- Is your Wi-Fi router near your bedroom? If so, move it further away or consider turning it off at night.
- Did you know that metal-spring mattresses and box springs can act as giant EMF antennas? This was news to me! Read more about it here.
3. Power Strips for Electronics:
- If you use power strips for your lights, TV, or other devices, turn them off at night. Less radiation equals better rest. I do!
4. Check Local Resources:
For my Dutch readers, Stichting EHS offers comprehensive checklists for lowering EMF exposure. Check if similar resources are available in your country. One change I made right away after reading this was ditching my old radio alarm clock, which had been plugged in under my bed! Now, I use a simple battery-operated alarm instead.
5. Consider investing in EMF modulation devices. The ones from Aires Tech are designed to help bring more balance to your environment by modulating electromagnetic frequencies. A key benefit is that these devices work with your body, enhancing its resilience and adaptability to environmental stressors.
Last but not least, consider also spending more time outdoors or in nature to balance your EMF exposure. Even better, practice grounding to help cool your body, which can become overheated from prolonged exposure.
Why This Matters
Whether you have symptoms or not, I urge you to explore this topic. Without symptoms, it’s easy to dismiss or misunderstand the effects of EMFs. The truth is, much about this isn’t yet fully understood. I choose to be cautious rather than regretful later. That’s why I’m sharing my experiences and knowledge here—to help you make informed decisions.
